Gambling support and clear-eyed statistics

Find Virginia support, understand warning signs and avoid misleading interpretations of gambling data.

Sources checked September 20, 2026. No live quotes, betting lines or statistical feed is claimed.

You do not have to wait for a crisis

Gambling can become a problem when it harms relationships, work or the ability to meet financial commitments. Concern is enough reason to ask for help; you do not need to prove a particular loss or complete a checklist here. Virginia DBHDS lists the state help line, and the Virginia Partnership for Gaming and Health at VCU offers information about treatment, referrals and recovery support.

Notice changes in behavior

Warning signs can include hiding gambling, difficulty cutting back, increasing the amount or frequency, or returning to try to recover earlier losses. These signs are prompts to seek support, not a diagnosis made by this page. Avoid treating gambling as a way to cover bills or repair a financial setback. A confidential conversation with a support service can help you consider next steps.

Understand self-exclusion before applying

Virginia's voluntary-exclusion program provides two-year, five-year and lifetime options covering specified regulated gambling activities. The official information page explains the scope, enrollment process and consequences. Read it carefully and make your own choice; Junction does not submit forms, enroll another person or claim that a local browser setting blocks every gambling service.

Read the denominator before the headline

Not every gambling statistic measures how common harm is. Virginia's Problem Gambling Treatment and Support Fund dashboard describes reimbursements for people receiving assistance through that fund. It is not a count of everyone with gambling problems or everyone receiving treatment. When sharing a statistic, keep its population, place, period and definition attached; this page does not invent a local prevalence or a personal risk percentage.
