MONEY · FOLLOW, QUESTION, RECHECK
Follow stocks with a research watchlist
Keep company research organized without turning a list of familiar names into a list of promised winners.
Sources checked September 20, 2026. No live quotes, betting lines or statistical feed is claimed.
Write a reason for following
A research watchlist records what you want to learn about a company. Write a plain-language reason for following it, then list the evidence that would support or weaken your view. Separate interest in a company's products from a judgment about its shares. Being familiar with a business does not establish its financial strength, value or suitability for you.
Use the same questions each time
Read the latest available annual and quarterly filings and record their periods. Useful questions include how the company earns revenue, whether operations generate cash, what obligations it must meet and which risks management discloses. Compare like periods and definitions. Do not combine adjusted and unadjusted measures without explaining the difference, or treat a promotional investor presentation as the entire record.
Practice with unranked examples
Deere, Microsoft and Tractor Supply are optional starting points for learning how three different companies communicate with investors. Their official investor pages are linked below. The order is alphabetical, not a ranking, and inclusion conveys no view about future share prices. The accompanying questions are editorial research prompts, not findings about current performance.
Review what changed
Keep dated notes rather than silently replacing an earlier thesis. After a new filing, mark what changed, what remains uncertain and whether your original reason for following still holds. A small watchlist is a learning aid, not a complete investment plan. Avoid treating attention, recent gains or a confident forecast as a substitute for risk assessment and broader diversification.
