Wayside Park and its history

Use the county's current park page to choose an appropriate trail, playground or picnic visit. Ask parks staff before relying on a specific amenity or reserving a shelter; the historic swinging bridge is part of the park's story.

Read the Hurt guide

Hurt has its own municipal identity at the northern end of Pittsylvania County. The town says the Roanoke, also called the Staunton River, separates it from Altavista in Campbell County. That distinction matters when choosing a town office, a park contact or a local business. A Hurt mailing address can also cover rural places outside the built-up town center; confirm a destination rather than treating every nearby listing as a walkable Main Street stop. Start with a specific purpose and the responsible source.

Wayside Park gives a concrete public-space anchor at 1678 Main Street. Pittsylvania County lists a playground, walking trails, picnic facilities, pickleball and a historic swinging bridge. Its account connects the park to the Civilian Conservation Corps and later county restoration, offering a reason to look beyond a quick photograph. Choose a manageable portion of the grounds and ask parks staff about specific access needs or a shelter reservation. A list of amenities does not establish that every surface or route will suit every visitor.

The county manages Wayside Park, while the Town of Hurt handles municipal questions from its office at 533 Pocket Road. Its website provides public forms for water service, business licensing, zoning requests and other matters. Check the right form and call the town before a visit that depends on staff assistance. A park shelter request instead belongs with county parks staff. Separating those contacts saves a trip to the wrong desk and gives residents a usable route through local services.

For a household service, Blue Ridge Heating and Cooling publishes a Hurt address, a phone number and a service area that includes neighboring communities. The operator describes heating, cooling and air-purification work, but its page is not a quote for a particular home. Tell the company what equipment or problem you have, then confirm availability and written terms before booking. The listing is an example of a verified local operator, not an endorsement or a guarantee of price, response time or outcome.

Saint Victoria Catholic Church publishes its own address at 305 Victoria Drive, contact number, bulletins and worship information. Those operator pages are the right place to check a particular gathering or request an accessibility arrangement. An event shown on an old page is not automatically a current invitation. This is one faith community among Hurt's institutions, so people with other interests can use the park and municipal resources without treating a religious stop as a required part of a town visit.

Build a Hurt plan from the task at hand: a park visit, a town errand or a direct conversation with a service provider. The town's description of its river boundary helps prevent an Altavista destination from being misfiled as a Hurt stop. Check conditions and accessibility with the operator responsible for each place. These sources were checked on September 26, 2026; use the town, county parks, parish and business contact pages for corrections as arrangements change. Neither this guide nor an unclaimed listing establishes an appointment.

How discovery and sponsorship work

Featured positions are paid advertising. Gretna first ranks Gretna, its nearby communities, the rest of Pittsylvania County, then the wider region. Within each area, results rotate hourly; highlighted profiles receive 1–4× weight according to their paid bid. Ratings, review counts, community votes and names control their own sort options. Each signed-in member can upvote or downvote once per listing, change direction or remove their vote. Votes do not change star reviews or replace reports of a problem. All profiles, including sponsors, must match your filters. Stars summarize approved Junction reviews and are never for sale.

Each listing is assigned by its address. Public-source listings remain unclaimed until ownership is confirmed.
