A small business does not have to be brand new to need a second set of eyes. Longwood Small Business Development Center offers confidential, one-to-one consulting at no cost for both prospective entrepreneurs and established owners.

Its service area includes Pittsylvania County, and its Danville office is listed at 1009 Bonner Avenue.

The center lists help with market assessment, sales forecasts, cash-flow projections, management and marketing. It also helps owners consider financing options, while making clear that the SBDC itself does not provide financing.

A consultation is advice and preparation, not a grant award or a promise of a loan.

Turn a large worry into a workable question

Our preparation suggestion is to choose a decision you expect to make in the next month. Should you add a product?

Can you afford another employee? Which kind of customer is worth pursuing?

Write the decision in one sentence and bring the figures you already use to think about it.

For example, a shop considering longer hours can bring recent sales by day, staffing costs and the hours customers have requested. These are examples of useful preparation, not a finding about any named Gretna business.

Label estimates as estimates; an attractive guess becomes less useful when it is presented as a recorded sale.

A short file can include your description of the business, the question, relevant records and the date by which you need to decide. You can ask the center which documents it wants before sharing detailed financial information.

Longwood’s contact page says consultations are by appointment and lists weekday operating hours of 8:30 a.m.–5 p.m. The Danville contact number is 434-797-8482.

Those regular hours do not establish holiday availability or an immediate opening.
