Choose your kind of art during Danville’s September 19–27 Arts Week

Make the week fit your interests

Danville’s Reflections of Home Arts Week is scheduled for September 19–27, bringing writing, visual art and performance into several venues. For a family or group coming from Gretna, the useful first choice is the experience: make something, see a performance or spend an afternoon browsing art.

The city lists Chalk the StoryWalk at Dan Daniel Memorial Park on September 19, 10 a.m.–noon; a Hobbit Day celebration at Riverfront Park on September 22, 5:30–7:30 p.m.; and Hansel & Gretel at Averett on September 23–25, 7–8 p.m. Registration and ticket links differ by event.

Check the individual entry rather than treating the whole week as one admission.

A free weekend on the museum lawn

Art on the Lawn is scheduled for September 26–27 at Danville Museum of Fine Arts & History. The museum says its two-day outdoor event is free and will feature work in media including painting, sculpture and photography.

Its page had not yet named the food trucks or band schedule when checked.

The organizer lists Saturday hours of 10 a.m.–5 p.m. and Sunday hours of 11 a.m.–4 p.m. The city’s Arts Week table instead shows Sunday beginning at 9 a.m.

That mismatch is unresolved in the published pages; confirm Sunday’s start with the museum before making an early trip. The museum number is 434-793-5644.

A writing invitation has already closed

The Arts Week site also links to Words From Home, a collection of work by Danville and Pittsylvania writers. Its 2026 entry window ended July 31.

The presence of a submission link should not be read as a new open deadline.
