Gretna’s August 31 water-system notice remains available for reference

The Town published an August 31, 2026 Water System Flushing & Water Quality Update. The original notice image is linked here as a dated record, not a current assessment of drinking-water quality or confirmation that planned work occurred. Check the Town’s latest instructions or contact Town Hall before relying on an older notice.

Gretna’s leaf-vacuum season runs September through December

The Town says its leaf vacuum operates September 1 through December 31, with the truck running as needed. Keep curbside piles out of drainage ditches, pipes and culverts, and separate leaves from rocks, branches and brush. Leaves must be bagged outside that season. Call the Town Office when leaves are ready for pickup.

Pittsylvania County's August 31 notice describes the Sheriff's Office Keep Me Safe registry for children, adults and seniors who may need tailored assistance during an emergency. Register through the official county path; do not send health or identity details to Gretna Junction.

As checked September 8, Pittsylvania County’s job page lists Director of Solid Waste, Heavy Equipment Mechanic (part-time), and Sanitation Collection Driver (temporary part-time seasonal), each marked open until filled. These are selected county-department listings, not every job on the site. Use each official description to verify duties, work location, qualifications and whether the role is still accepting applications before sharing personal information.

Gretna-area indoor sports complex remains a fundraising proposal

WSET reported July 30, 2026 that nonprofit Off Season had entered a campaign to raise $20 million for a proposed Gretna-area sports complex near U.S. 29. Reported plans include basketball and volleyball courts, indoor turf and batting cages. Organizers described a three-to-five-year fundraising horizon before construction. That is a proposal and fundraising aim, not an opening date or confirmation that financing or construction is complete.

Schools

Gretna Elementary’s reading changes focus on the earliest grades

WSET reported August 10, 2026 that Gretna Elementary had introduced a reading program and reduced screen use: screens were no longer a primary instructional tool in kindergarten and first grade, with highly limited use in second grade. The report describes the school’s approach, not a measured result proving that the changes improved achievement. Families should use the school and district for current classroom and calendar information.

Gretna’s adopted FY 2026–2027 budget is listed on the Town website

The Town’s community-news index lists an adopted FY 2026–2027 budget posting dated July 7, 2026. Follow the Town’s budget document for the official record and use public meetings or Town Hall for questions. This brief points to the posting; it does not analyze individual revenue lines, spending totals or subsequent budget amendments.

Work

Start local applications from the employer or school-system website

Amthor International’s careers page links to its current listings on Indeed. Pittsylvania County Schools’ official vacancies link leads to its SchoolSpring portal. Start from those organization-controlled routes, then verify the particular role, location, qualifications and closing status before applying. A listing on an approved platform is still not a job offer, and Gretna Junction does not need your application or identity documents.
