A starting point in the record.

William Henry Harrison served as an Army officer, territorial official, and governor of the Indiana Territory before winning the presidency. His military career included the Battle of Tippecanoe and service during the War of 1812. Harrison entered office on March 4, 1841, and died the following month. His short presidency made John Tyler the first vice president to assume the presidency after an incumbent's death.
