Warren G. Harding worked in newspaper publishing and served in Ohio politics and the U.S. Senate before becoming president. His administration favored lower taxes, higher tariffs, and restrictions on immigration. It also participated in international negotiations on naval armaments. Harding died in office in August 1923, and Calvin Coolidge succeeded him. Investigations into misconduct by administration officials, including the Teapot Dome affair, continued after his death.
