Jimmy Carter served as a naval officer, entered Georgia politics, and became governor before winning the presidency. His administration worked on energy policy and participated in the Camp David negotiations between Egypt and Israel. The Iran hostage crisis and inflation marked his final period in office. Carter served from 1977 to 1981. His later international work led to the award of the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002.
