A starting point in the record.

Franklin D. Roosevelt served in the New York Senate, as assistant secretary of the Navy, and as governor of New York before becoming president. His administration developed New Deal programs during the Great Depression and led the United States through much of World War II. Roosevelt won four presidential elections, a unique record. He died in April 1945, and Vice President Harry S. Truman succeeded him.
