A starting point in the record.

Andrew Jackson represented Tennessee in Congress and served as a military commander before becoming the seventh president. His wartime service included the Battle of New Orleans. As president, he opposed the Second Bank of the United States and asserted federal authority during the nullification dispute with South Carolina. His administration also pursued Native American removal. Jackson served two presidential terms, from 1829 to 1837.
