THE HISTORY DESK · U.S. 29

A hundred miles.
A thousand small stories.

The roadside sale that became a recurring part of regional life, from Amherst toward Danville.

How one event became a seasonal tradition.

Local reporting places the U.S. 29 sale’s beginning in 2015 and describes spring and fall editions by 2023. Its 2026 spring edition brought sellers and bargain hunters back to the corridor.

We have not established the exact year the second annual edition was added. The separate U.S. 360/460 yard sale has a different route and history.
